Where and how to get help

We recognise that some people need extra support when they experience bereavement. This service was created to support individual needs through a Bereavement Centre, and is supported by Cruse Bereavement Care.

Ingrid McAllister-Derry is the Bereavement Centre leader and has worked for the Co-operative Funeral Directors for over 10 years. Ingrid, a volunteer for Cruse Bereavement Care, holds a Diploma in Counselling, specialising in Bereavement, has extensive knowledge and experience in this subject and is also is a qualified Professional Life Coach. Cruse Bereavement Care and The Bereavement Centre joined forces seven years ago to run two support groups. The groups offer friendly support and help with emotional, practical and social needs. The group sessions are scheduled as follows:

Second Saturday in the month:

Support Group & Friendship Group

Last Wednesday in the month:

Support Group. All Support Group Sessions are Free Of Charge.

The friendship group offers a wide range of social events during every month where everyone is welcome.

All of the Group Sessions are held at the Cooperative Funeral Directors premises in Fratton Road, Portsmouth.

Alternatively if you prefer one to one support in your own home, you can call Cruse Bereavement Care on 023 8023 2500

You can also find help from your general practitioner, the clergy or voluntary organisations who have bereavement counsellors and skilled helpers. They can be a great support, especially if grief is unresolved, the death was sudden or if the bereaved person is finding it difficult to talk to people close or involved.
